Big Ask 2023

July 21st, 2023|

Rev Clive McKie Taketime Reigate Community Centre High Street Reigate RH2 9AE July 2023 Can you help? Dear Friend Hello, my name is Clive McKie. On 2nd May, we made access to all our Taketime audio meditations free, moving away from the previous subscription model. We have done this because our aim is to allow as many people as possible to find Jesus and grow in their faith and the subscription model was not allowing this to happen. In 1930 Christians represented about 30% of the population in the UK. Today just 6% of adults in the UK are practising [...]

Taketime Introductory Article for Church Magazines

November 22nd, 2022|

Taketime - a new way of mission and of growing in faith How did it begin? It all began when a prisoner with no faith background asked the chaplain, “How do you pray?” The chaplain, Rev Clive McKie, replied “Simply speak to God in your mind.” She said, “I’ve tried that –it doesn’t work!” Having attended some Ignatian spirituality retreats, Rev McKie explained that if we use our imagination to picture a setting in which Jesus is present, it is easier to stay focused. The prisoner replied, “Let’s do it!” Clive described the healing of the leper in Matthew chapter 4, [...]

3Generate: “I was just talking to Jesus – come and see”

October 7th, 2022|

Taketime certainly played its part at 3Generate, the Methodist Children and Youth Assembly, this year. The event took place at the NEC Birmingham 30 September to 1 October, with over 1,000 young people from across Britain coming together to share in fun, fellowship and to hear the word of God. In the ‘Chapel and Garden’ area was a venue called Elijah’s Cave, where people were invited to listen to God’s still, small voice. Here they could put on a pair of headphones and listen to a Taketime meditation. As you can see in the picture, the cave was actually a beautiful [...]

Taketime in Education

December 8th, 2021|

Our experience of using Taketime in schools and colleges has been incredible. Take a look at the 3-minute video below where three people, working in education, share their experiences of using Taketime. https://vimeo.com/595936086   Our new on-line Taketime Schools Practitioner Course equips teachers, chaplains and others working in education, to use Taketime with their students. We have been really excited to hear those who have completed this course telling us how wonderful it is to see children and young people meeting Jesus, talking with him and beginning to build a relationship with him. How could you help young people in [...]

There

October 26th, 2021|

It is my experience that when God’s hand is upon a project, the right people appear at the right time. The person I’m writing about has definitely been a blessing at the right time for the Taketime project. What is also great, is that it seems Taketime has been a real blessing to him too and continues to comfort him. When he shared the testimony below, and when I listened to his podcast, I felt that it deserved to be shared. The gentleman wishes to remain anonymous but is very happy for this to be shared. Please read the paragraph below [...]

Taketime in Prison

October 8th, 2021|

During a visit to a women’s prison with Clive, we met a woman who had been a heroin addict for many years. After she had shared something of her traumatic and painful past with us, Clive asked if he could pray with her, and with her consent, he did a short Taketime prayer. When asked about her experience afterwards, she said it was like “a drug that makes you feel good, but it’s free and doesn’t harm you” and she also felt that for the first time in her life she was in the right place. She said she was [...]

Strange Encounters

July 30th, 2021|

For any of you that have attended a Taketime Together Group you're probably familiar with moving, heart-warming and Godly encounters. From time to time, you may have also witnessed creative or abstract encounters. As we say at our meetings: “whatever you experience is OK”. However, sometimes our Taketime Together Groups don’t always go to plan and our experiences are a little more out of the ordinary. I’m sure some of you may have had to ignore unexpected noises inside and outside your meeting rooms, clocks falling off walls or on one occasion at our own Group, a repair man walking [...]

Taketime has helped my preaching

February 23rd, 2021|

Using Taketime Meditations to help with my Local Preacher Training The past year has been challenging as we have all learned to navigate new ways of working, socialising, and learning. I have been stressed and anxious at times and at first I found it harder to follow my normal prayer habits. As much as I have longed to be back in church, I have to say I have loved discovering the amazing content and resources shared by different people online. I have attended trainings and learnt so many new skills, opening up my mind to new opportunities. Taking more time [...]

Happy Birthday

January 29th, 2021|

In the beginning… Everything has a beginning and as we reach our fourth year we begin to look back at where we began, what we have achieved, and where we will be going next. It is now four years since Taketime began offering unique, accessible, online meditations. Whoever would have predicted what has happened over this last year. We could never have planned for it, and it has meant we have needed to adapt what we offer. Despite the challenges, we have continued to grow as more and more people discover the value of our meditations. Popular demand The number [...]

Online Taketime

December 14th, 2020|

‘Online’ verses ‘In Real Life’ Presenting anything online is very different to presenting it in real life. Throughout the lockdowns, churches have learnt that whereas streaming what they normally do on a Sunday morning, maybe acceptable to their usual congregation, this format doesn’t usually attract those from a non-church background who are used to online content. Simply putting what you normally do online is known as Church Online. On the other hand, creating online content specifically for those used to spending time online who may not have a church background, is known as Online Church. A new Taketime venture At [...]

Taketime Online Schools Training Course

December 14th, 2020|

At the beginning of 2020 we launched our Schools Training Course. Jane Bishop, who heads up our Schools Programme, visited a number of different schools and trained teachers how to use Taketime with primary aged children. The pace of the schools training rollout has been impacted not only by the lockdown, but by the time that is required to deliver the training. Teachers are always busy and squeezing time in to receive training has been difficult. With the development of the online schools training, teachers will be able to complete the course in their own time over a longer period [...]

Taketime Practitioner Online Training Course

December 14th, 2020|

When the COVID-19 lockdown hit, Taketime, along with many other charities, had to look at new ways to conduct our business. In the past we had  promoted Taketime at events such as 3Generate and the Christian Resources Exhibition (CRE) and we spent a lot of time traveling around the country for our Taketime Training Days. This changed overnight; all face-to-face events for the remainder of 2020 were cancelled. A chance conversation with one of our Practitioners made us think about running our training online and just two months later we were able to pilot our new Taketime Practitioner Online Training [...]
